Aaron Brooks and the Sports Illustrated Anti-Jinx
Everybody knows about the infamous SI cover jinx. It dates back to the very first issue, when MLB player Eddie Mathews hurt his hand and was out 7 games just after being pictured on the cover. It's a long and illustrious list of names that you can check out on the Wikipedia site.
However, there has been a new development in the jinxes of SI, and that is the "Anti-Jinx." Grant Wahl wrote about it on SI.com as one of the top stories to watch this weekend. You see, it all started way back when SI redid the cover for the NCAA Tournament preview issue, in '03 I think. It looked pretty much exactly like the one you see above that many relate to the "Where's Waldo?" books. It had at least one representative from each team on it. Hey, with everyone on it, somebody has to win right? So the jinx will be broken.
Well, it's looking like this cover could start a new jinx. You see, Oregon is in a haloed spot right now. They are exactly where Florida was last year. Just take a look at these similarities. People have been speculating that we are this year's Florida more and more as we've been winning. Well, here's the kicker:
Take a look at this cover, and who's on the big ball. It's Joakim Noah. He went on to earn tournament MVP, and Aaron Brooks is in the same spot this year with a team in basically the same position. Anything I can do to convince myself that the Ducks will win I'm going to do! Just keep this in the back of your mind when we play Florida. Should be interesting. GO DUCKS!
