Thought: Into the Outdoors

For no apparent reason, I was paying attention to the news that was on in the background just now. I'm actually still watching it, and don't know why. I hate Eugene news on TV. Anyways, during an ever-interesting piece about rabbit season in Oregon the news anchor said this:

The weekends are a popular time for people to head into the outdoors.
This struck me as an odd statement. Not odd because people don't like to go hunting on weekends or anything like that, but rather the phrasing. Can you really head into the outdoors? I'm not so sure you can. Seems like an oxymoron to me. Like jumbo shrimp. Or warming down (as in warm up, cool down). It's just impossible! Any thoughts?

You know my feelings about "warming down." We have had this disagreement before. But I agree with you about heading "into the outdoors." Silly.
