Shawn Marion for Shaq: Worst Trade in NBA History
This week, Miami Heat C Shaquille O'Neal was traded to the Phoenix Suns for Shawn Marion and some loser named Marcus Banks. The trade is final, and it is probably the worst trade in NBA history. Allow me to explain/rant.
Shawn Marion is one of the best players in the NBA right now. He's fast, he's long, he's probably the most athletic guy in the league (although his form really is terrible), and as a result, he's a lock-down defender, amazing on offense, and consistently in the top 3 of fantasy players. He was also an integral part of the Suns game.
Shaq on the other hand, is not. As dominating as Shaq used to be, right now he's a total waste of space. I don't think he'll ever play another injury free season, maybe not even an injury free half season, and because of all the nagging injuries, he's not the same Shaq he was. The only thing he'll contribute is the THREAT of post presence, which will allow Phoenix's amazing shooters to thrive. However, he's going to clog up the middle for Amare, he's slow as shit so the Suns won't run anymore, Steve Nash won't win anymore MVP's, and their offense is going to suck.
If the Suns just would have given it a few more years and picked up a few more guys, I think they would have won a championship. Shit, they haven't even given Amare a chance to give it a shot 100% healthy. They kind of gave up on their values in a sense in giving him up.
Now, I know Shaq and Pat Riley were having troubles, Shawn Marion wanted to leave, and blah, blah. But seriously, this was an awful decision. Here are my predictions for what will happen because of this trade:
Predictions:
- The Suns won't win a championship for at least 3 years, when they finally ditch Shaq, and they will be in the same lose-in-the-first-round-of-the-playoffs situation they were in before
- The Heat will immediately go from worst team in the league to one of the best in the East again in 1 year
- Dwayne Wade will FINALLY get some help on both offense and defense, because God knows Shaq didn't help
- Shawn Marion will DOMINATE the East, finishing 2nd in All-Star voting next year among forwards to KG
- Shaq won't play a combined 60 games with the Suns, total
- Marion will still have the ugliest jumper in the NBA

yeah i agree completely with basically everything you said. i mean the suns who are a high powered offense fueled off of fast breaks and the 3 pointer. shawn marion is THE BEST fast break player in the nba. and the man isnt bad at 3's either. the other thing the suns do so well, is their perimiter defense. shawn marion, with the exception of gerald wallace, is the best perimeter defender in the game. not only can he defend the perimeter but hes a good post-defense player as well. him and amare are a solid 1-2 punch and with stevie nash dishin it to them, they could of gone somewhere. but now they trade one of the premiere players in the nba for some washed up has been? and the fact that they traded 2 players for shaq, even as sucky as marcus banks is, is even worse. i mean the suns should of gotten a few more players. but no. they settle for this shit.
and idk about shawn marion having the ugliest jumper in the nba, josh childress of the atlanta hawks is puttin up a good fight.
Lebron James is the most athletic player in the league.
Athleticism isn't just about offense, and LeBron can't play defense like Marion can.

Shawn Marion is a crybaby 3rd option that was the highest paid player on the Suns (more than Nash or STAT) but felt "disrespected".
What an idiot...hope he is happy on the team that has had the worst slide in the history of the NBA.
At least he has another idiot NBA alumn in Joe Johnson that he can call to see what it's like to leave a condender for a team that has no chance.
PREDICTION: Marion will become a crybaby in Miami within 2 years because Dwade gets all the credit and attention.
