Adidas and Reggie Bush, nice shoes man

Saturday was the first day Reggie Bush took the field as a pro. He tallied 59 yards on 6 carries and caught 2 passes for 10 yards. Considering he only played about a quarter, he did pretty darn well. But while Reggie was getting attention for his play, he was also getting attention for his shoes.

The NFL has marketing partnerships with both Nike and Reebok which allow players to wear those, an only those, brands. But Reggie has a big contract with Adidas, and so he decided to wear his new Saints-colored Adidas cleats on Saturday, seen above. Well, on Monday, the NFL fined him $10,000 for violating the policy. When Reggie was asked about it after Monday's practice, he told reporters that "Adidas took care of it."

Now, I hope this was planned, and I'm pretty sure it was. I think it was a great idea. First of all, $10,000 is a very, very small price for Adidas to pay for that kind of exposure. Being Reggie's first game, you know there are going to be pictures all over the place of this kid, and people watching as well. The only problem was this was not a nationally televised game, so not as large an audience was exposed. But still, $10,000 gets you in the news at least. And now that they are "Reggie's game shoes", I'm sure Adidas will sell a bunch of them.
