Zinedine Zidane's headbutt
UPDATE
Better video:
Tonight (Wednesday), Zidane is holding a press conference, which will be televised live in France, explaining the reasons behind his actions in the final last weekend. Materazzi, the headbuttee, explained the situation. He claimed he was holding Zidane's jersey, to which Zidane said "If you really want my shirt, you can have it after the game." Materazzi came back with "I'd rather take the shirt off your wife." News sources in Europe have been crazy about this, going as far as getting lip readers to examine the tapes, and they claim Materazzi made a racist remark about his mother being a terrorist, specifically calling Zidane the "son of a terrorist whore." That's pretty bad. Members of the Zidane family have said the only thing that could push him to do something like this is a racist remark. FIFA has also launched a probe into this matter. But his press conference is tonight, and should do some work to clear this mess up.

Ok, so as I'm sure all of you know by now, the 2006 World Cup finals were today, and Italy beat France in penalty kicks (5-3) in a pretty exciting game. It's a good day to be Italian. But the fact that Italy won the biggest tournament in the world is being overshadowed because of Zinedine Zidane's headbutt in the second overtime of today's game.
For all of you who don't know, Zidane played for France, and is the best French player in history, and one of the all-time greats to ever play the game. Before this final game, he had declared that this was going to be his last game; he would retire afterwards. He was the king of the penalty kick, and showed it today with a BALLSY shot to draw first blood. However, this was all forgotten in the second OT when, after jawing with Italian player Marco Materazzi for a while, Zidane turned and gave him a wicked headbutt to the chest. Here are a few pictures:
Now, if you ask me, this was AWESOME to watch. I don't care who did it or why, but a headbutt like this that just laid that guy out made me sit up and clap. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't agree with it, I think it was out of line, and I certainly think he cost France the game because of it, but it was fun to watch. This is actually his 2nd headbutt, but clearly the better of the 2. There's actually a video I found that loops it, and I could watch that thing for hours! Click on this picture to see it:
It sucks that Zidane is going out like this. I hope he comes back and plays for some club so that this won't be his lasting legacy, but you know what? I thought it was badass. Nobody mess with Zidane! The whole game I was joking about how he looks pissed ALL the time, and then boom! He got pissed. Anyways, all that being said, I'm interested to hear all the inside information later on this week. Now I'm going to go watch that video some more.
