Movie Review: Thank You For Smoking
Thank God I finally saw this movie. Everyone has been telling me it's good, and it didn't come to Eugene, so I was never able to. But then last night I went up to Corvallis and saw it, and boy did it live up to the hype.
First of all, it was just really fun to watch. I had a great time for all 92 minutes of this film. I think the satire was played to the perfect degree, and the humor was well timed. The movie had a lot of quick-talking stab comments too, and they didn't seem like they were set up; they seemed totally natural, so I think the writing was very well done. This was a very smart movie as well, which I really appreciated. The whole subject obviously being taboo, they approached it the right way and evoked great moments of "oh my gosh I can't believe I'm laughing at that!"
I thought it could have taken way more stabs than it did, and I would have loved a little bit more confrontation between Nick Naylor and, well, anyone. He was the ultimate spin doctor, and had me rooting for cigarettes the whole time. I was a fan of all his arguments, I just wish they could have exploited that more.
Speaking of arguments, I thought one of the strongest parts of the movie was the relationship development between Nick and his son. All the characters were very well developed, even with its 92 minute running time, but I really liked the relationship he had with his son. I also think the way they incorperated him into Nick's arguments and just the general plot made it all stronger. On sort of a tangent, I thought Seth Cohen was good in this movie too. His real name being Adam Brody, I think the reason why I liked him so much in this movie is because he played "old Seth", which for those of you who know what I'm talking about (The O.C.) can hopefully agree with. I think he could have an awesome movie career, and not only as Seth Cohen. Katie Holmes was hot too, but that's a given.
On the Reganometer, it gets a 9 out of 10. There is no reason not to see this movie, so, as everyone has told me, go see it if you haven't already. It's the funniest movie of the year, and you'll be sorry if you don't.

Hells yeah. I almost started to cry it was so funny. I would have watched it again if there was another showing right after it.
Did you write "hells yeah"? Please, never do that again.
Thank You For Smoking is satire at it's finest. Besides, any movie that says someone has the tolerance (in regards to alcohol) of an Irish dock worker is okay by me. I found the funniest thing in the whole movie is that no one smoked, the entire damn movie no one lit up a cig. Now that is irony. That is why I give the movie a hells yeah to go along with Colin, it just flat out deserves a hells yeah.
