Music Review: Angels & Airwaves
Well, I have a lot to write about tonight, so I'll get started. I know these post in most recent first order, so by the end of the night, this will be the last one you read, but I figured I'd intro the string of posts in case you catch this first one.
I just got the Angels & Airwaves CD titled We Don't Need To Whisper.
If you don't know, this the new band of Tom DeLonge, the old Blink-182 lead singer. As far as I know, this is the 3rd band he's been with: Blink-182 of course, and then BoxCar Racer that I really liked. His bands have always had a love theme in one way or another, which is both expected, but also interesting. Blink-182 had a really good run, and most of their songs were all about the teenage angst side of love. BoxCar Racer only had one cd, self titled, and it was really good. All songs on that album were about the downsides of love, specifically losing it. Now comes Angels & Airwaves, which is focused on love, but more the empowering side of it. The part of it that I really love (pun half intended). The part that (without getting too cliche) really makes you happy. This was his goal with this album, he really wanted it to get to people, and I think it does a fine job.
However, he has this idea of a great song, and how it sounds, and replicates the sound throughout the album, so it get a bit repetetive if you listen straight through the CD. The equation isn't flawed, but there is just very little variance in the sound. If you listen to individual songs, the message might be a little more effective.
My favorite songs on the album are The Gift (track 7), The Adventure (track 4, and their current hit), and Good Day (track 9). The rest of the songs are good, but really just sound like each other (which may be good or not good, depending on the music you like). If I could rate this CD on the Reganometer, which you better believe I can, I would give it a 6 out of 10. Pretty good CD, but preview it before you get it.
