My Sites: Woot!

Woot!. "One Day, One Deal". Woot.com is an online retailer that offers one discounted deal every day. The way it works is every night at midnight central time (10pm Pacific) a new product is offered. It is up for 24 hours and replaced with another deal the next night at midnight. The products sold vary, but they tend to be computer components and electronic gadgets.

As you can see, this is the first edition of "My Sites". It's basically a little bio about some of the sites I visit regularly and think are cool.

Products on Woot! vary from expensive to inexpensive, but all are great deals based on retail price. Some are cheaper because they are refurbished items, and often the products sell out before the next product is put up. Today, the deal just happens to be a refurbished Microsoft Zune mp3 player for only $99.99. If you wanted a Zune, that's a great price. Not surprisingly though, it hasn't sold out.

A facet of Woot! that is pretty cool is that, no matter what product you buy, and how heavy it may be, shipping is $5. Granted, it's FedEx SmartPost, which is the slowest shipping known to man, but it's always $5. Other cool things include Woot-offs, which are basically super clearance sales on the stuff they didn't sell out of until they do sell out, and the Bag O' Crap, which is a $1 grab bag that could have a ballpoint pen in it or an HDTV, but you don't know until you get it.

Woot! also has Shirt.Woot and Wine.Woot that have the same business model but sell shirts and wine, respectively.

I have been visiting Woot! almost every night at 10pm for a while now, and have purchased a few products. My big purchase was my new 23" Philips HDTV for $300 about a month ago, but I've also bought a wireless network adapter, a USB TV tuner, and an AC-to-DC power converter for my truck. I have also bought a few shirts from Shirt.Woot, but no wine.

It's a great, simple site that usually has cool stuff for cheap. Check it out sometime at www.woot.com.
